changes in fire regime

Fundamental changes in landscape behavior are likely to be reflected in spatial analysis of fire size versus area. Alaskan fires in 1999 were typical of all Alaskan fires since 1988 (slopes for small fires with log(size) less than 3 similar and slopes for large fires with x greater than 3 similar; also, slopes for small fires different from slopes for large fires). By contrast, the 2004 wildfire season was atypical of preceding fires (slope for small fires with log(size) less than 3 more similar to slope for large fires with x greather than 3). The Donnelly Flats fire is the site of FOCAL's Delta Flats studies.
